Said the following about Andy Flint and James Callaghan:

“On 28th July 2015 in Kettering at around 14:00 staff were working on a bridge when Andy Flint noticed a young lad walking towards the structure on the up fast having accessed the track from Kettering station. Andy alerted the site supervisor/SWL2 James Callaghan who quickly rang to stop all trains in the area explained the situation saying we need to get across and remove him from danger as the lad had his back to approaching traffic on a line of speeds upto 125mph. James called his manager to alert him of what was happening. Both James and and Andy accessed down to the lines and saw a train approaching on the adjacent line, Andy quickly raised both arms to alert the driver who was travelling at a slow speed of around 30mph ,as the train past the lad he reached out to stroke the passing train with his hand. James and Andy removed the lad from the infrastructure and began to speak to him trying to get through to him, calmly they asked if he wanted talk if he was OK if he needed money if he needed food or a hot drink where he was from anything to try and deter him from his attempt , he walked off still looking distressed. James rang the BTP to alert them and Andy and their manager walked down to keep an eye on him as he said I'll be back to do it later .When the BTP arrived James spoke to them and to the staff at Kettering station giving them a full description of the lad and alerting them that he said he will be back.

This wasn't a cry for help but an actual attempt as he had his back to approaching traffic on the fast line.James and Andy prevented what would have been a successful suicide by using the awareness given have saved his life .

Speaking with James and Andy after both said that the Suicide Awareness Day had helped them handle the situation knowing how to approach him and how to talk to him .

A big well done and Thank you to James and Andy is needed for their success and professionalism in handling the whole situation.“
