Said the following about James Beckingham:

“From the first time I met James, Which was during my Induction, he came across as a very likeable person that seemed to get on with anyone, James soon had everyone's Attention in the class and was very welcoming and made us all feel at ease.

James was my CDM who conducted my ICA, I was nervous as ….. before, even though all the comments I had heard from other drivers about James, were all positive I still couldn't help but have that twisted gut-retching feeling of nervousness, Anyway, on meeting James that morning he made me feel so relaxed and calm with his witty and very funny sense of humour, the way he spoke with me and composed himself was a true professional and he knew exactly how to be around me and make me feel relaxed, James is a very bubble guy and in my opinion an absolute legend, he is suited for the role with his approach and personality, James is willing to go out of his way to make sure you get what you need and has always offered support and help whenever you want it.

James, you are a credit to the company and I believe he deserves to win the "Learning, Developing and Investing in People Award" :)“

Said the following about James Beckingham:

“James's unwavering commitment to the growth and development of his driving team, coupled with his innovative safety initiatives, has made a profound impact on our organisation, and he is truly deserving of this recognition.

James Beckingham serves as a Competency Manager in the Southern Metro area and has consistently gone above and beyond in his role to foster a culture of learning, safety and development within Southern Metro.

James's proactive approach to safety is commendable. He initiated safety workshops that bring our drivers together to discuss the challenges they face in their day-to-day operations. These workshops have not only improved communication but have also enhanced our safety protocols.

Recognising the importance of clear communication, James established an in-depot safety messaging system using graphics and videos. This innovative approach has made it easier for all employees to understand and remember key safety messages, ultimately reducing the risk of accidents and incidents.

James's dedication to the continuous development of his team is reflected in the "Competency Update" magazine he produces. This initiative keeps his team engaged and informed, ensuring that they stay up to date with industry trends and best practices and upcoming rulebook amendments.

His collaborative approach to problem-solving and his willingness to involve all team members in safety discussions have created a more cohesive and informed workforce. He encourages open dialogue and values input from his colleagues.

He mentors his new members of the team and works to provide them with the support they need to discharge their duties.

His tireless efforts have undeniably made Southern Metro a safer place to work, and his contributions extend well beyond the scope of his role. His dedication, innovative thinking, and commitment to investing in people set a shining example for Southern.“

Said the following about James Beckingham:

“From the first moment I met James he has stood out, there are few people out there who have a genuine passion for professional development and this is apparent to all who meet him.

Every day he gives his all to make those around him better, offering unwavering support and wanting no recognition in return.

I wouldn't be the developer I am today without the training, mentoring and support that James offered. This nomination is small recognition of the work he continues to do in developing others“

Jennifer Kelly

Said the following about James Beckingham:

“James is my CDM, he passed me on my ICA and has been there for me ever since. He took the time to get to know me as a person, understand external pressures that impact my daily life, and is always so encouraging and helpful. When I had an incident he supported me and ensured I could move past it rather than wallow and let it affect my development as a driver, he continues to be a massive support to me and is always approachable and incredibly helpful. I truly feel that if it wasn’t for James I wouldn’t believe in myself as much as I do, and I know that if I ever have any problems or questions he will be there to help, and most importantly understands me as a person and not just a driver. He’s an absolute star and I’m so grateful he is my CDM.“

Carl Edwards

Said the following about James Beckingham:

“When I first met James it was apparent that he had a passion for development in individuals, this was very noticeable as not all people hold the most crucial element that is required to teach people and that is the ability to interact with individuals on a more personal level.

His ability to be able to tailor conversations and development needs to individuals makes him an outstanding leader in the world of training and was truly a breath of fresh air from the robotic, tick box and monotonous processes that normally exist around training.

We conducted my ICA under the most challenging circumstances during the height of the pandemic under strict guidelines in regards to health and well-being and still he managed to keep me engaged in the process, and kept me feeling relaxed throughout the whole thing.

James and the energy he brings to the development of people is truly unmatched given previous experiences and I am a better driver for it.“

Sam Hall

Said the following about James Beckingham:

“I have known James since he started as a CDM for Southern but really got to know how he works during covid. James and I were part of the Metro South CDM team and we were short staffed due to covid restrictions and together we covered as much of the work load as we could. We worked long hours and ensured the driver’s needs were met. James was always available for drivers to speak to and at that time started his monthly newsletter.

James’ monthly newsletter is something I shamelessly utilised for my own drivers, it gives up to date and relevant information about the time of year and risks, the current trending safety of the line incidents and any rule book updates. This is produced in such a way it is not condescending and emailed out to drivers. I have had many relevant conversations with drivers from the newsletter.

I have watched James’ passion for development with his drivers and the sheer determination to ensure every driver is seen and understood. James will think laterally and holistically to ensure he supports his drivers, and any other driver who is in need. He is not afraid to have the tough conversations but in a tactful way to ensure the drivers understand the development needs.

James is highly thought of as a CDM and thoroughly deserves the recognition this award offers.“

Andrew Butcher

Said the following about James Beckingham:

“James has always been a very understanding and helpful CDM. Always friendly, available and approachable.

James has the experience and knowledge of the job we do. As a driver it is nice that someone appreciates the job, understands the shift work and how it can affect us.

James ran a couple of safety workshops that I was involved with, he wanted to get an understanding of safety of the line incidents and if there was anything he could do locally to improve our records. I found these massively beneficial and informative.

I’d like to nominate James for this award, for his hard work and dedication to the role.“

Tom Berriman

Said the following about James Beckingham:

“I believe James deserves this award as I feel he goes above and beyond as a CDM. He conducts himself professionally but at the same time with a warmth and kindness that makes him very approachable.

I have had several occasions where I have needed someone to advise or help with certain things and he has always been that person. I know that I can call him (day or night, as we all know us drivers work very unsociable hours) and he is going to be there with the help I need. Even with the extent of giving me additional ways of contacting him should the necessity arise.

Having a manager with these qualities really does make a difference when doing a job like ours, even if sometimes it may seem like a stupid question. I always know he isn’t going to judge or question what i am confirming with him, he is just going to be there with the support I am looking for, both over the phone or in person.“
