The RailStaff Awards 2024

Nominations for Rail Manager of the Year

Steve Tarsey

Said the following about Ian Watts:

“I would like to nominate Ian Watts (Station Operations Manager in Victoria).

I don't usually nominate anyone but feel Ian's professionalism and kindness have to be recognised.

Since Ian took the role as Stations Operation Manager he made it clear from day one that anything I need or any advice I need on any matter he is always available.

In most nominations, it’s pointed out that the individual has done something outstanding or being recognised for a good deed which is great. Ian's case for me is a little different, he has gone above and beyond to create a fabulous working environment where you don't feel intimidated and can speak openly knowing no matter what he will support you and always puts his team first.

This is Ian's first role in a senior management position on our railway and hand on heart I truly feel his talents are underestimated and it can only be a matter of time before he takes an even more senior role with us, which from a personal point of view would be a massive loss.

If these nominations are to recognise individual managers who know and understand their staff and support them, then Ian wins hands down.

For those who know Ian you all know what a genuine guy he is.

He won't thank me for saying this or nominating him but credit where it's due.

I have been on the railway now for around 25 years and Ian is up there with the best managers you could wish for.

Top Guy, Top Manager, we are lucky to have him.“
