David Llewellyn

Said the following about Geraint Llewellyn and Ian Rowlands Llewellyn and Rowlands:

“High Speed Train Driver Geraint had a very traumatic near miss incident with 2 young boys aged 7 and 8 on the South Wales Mainline whilst he was driving a high speed train at 90mph. Geraint was adamant that he had killed both lads. Fortunately, after 3 hours, he received a phone call from the British Transport Police to inform him he had not even injured them, however, they had both boys in their custody. Once he returned to work, he got in touch with his line manager Ian Rowlands to build a project and personally deliver and present to primary school children. After 8weeks of hard work, they both presented their first school. It's been such a success, that they have now presented to over 4000 children in the South Wales area, with a definite reduction in young children tresspassing on our rail network. They have done this all voluntarily, and deserve further recognition for their dedication and commitment. After their school presentation, they set a competition to all the children in the school to design a safety poster. The winning class then gets a First Great Western Train Experience Day, all carried out by both Geraint and Ian. Children sit in a drivers cab with Geraint, and have a 1st class return ride from Swansea to Bridgend. Geraint and Ian secured funding for goody bags, consisting of food and stationary etc for every child. This project hit the media very soon after, and they have delivered this presentation to the DFT, and DFE in parliament. Their ultimate aim is to get rail safety within the National Curriculm, and at present, their building a website for rail safety, and lesson plans for primary school teachers to learn and deliver. They have both had massive interest from government MP's, Councillors, Police Force, Teachers and mainly Children. An absolute excellent initiative aimed at educating children from what could have been a tragic accident.“
