The RailStaff Awards 2024

Nominations for Station Staff of the Year

Jeffrey Wales

Said the following about Esther Hayward:

“I would like to nominate Esther Hayward for her continual hard work, dedication and professionalism she has shown throughout the year in trying personal circumstances.

Esther's husband has been seriously ill during the year, resulting in a double heart bypass operation. But Esther has continued to do her job to a very high standard.

Esther has received numerous "going the extra mile or bronze award" nominations from both passengers and staff for the professional way Esther goes about her job.

Even when Esther's husband was seriously ill, Esther continued to work to a very high standard, still making passengers and staff smile, never wavering from her own high standards.

Esther is also a depot rep and has consistently given her up own time to support colleagues, regardless of what has been going on in her personal life.

Esther is a very popular staff member, within her own depot and across the region, and even though the reasons given are not the most compelling, I feel that Esther has carried on, giving 100% in her job, regardless of personal circumstances, deserves to be nominated and receive some recognition.

................................................................

As Esther's manager i would like to add my own personall perspective on the nomination recieved by Jeff Wales.

I have worked alongside Esther Hayward for 18 months now, and from viewing Esther has adapted to her responcabilities to an extremely high standard.

Through this time Esther has dealt with not only work related issues but also personal problems but through all of this she has developed a way of working which can only be described and exeptional.

Esther acts as the area local rep and her commitment and support she offers all colleagues is a huge step in showing the strength in depth we have within this company. Esther represents her area to a very high standard, and i can only stress how important she is to the depot and the steps we are trying to take forward.

I am aware that a nomination of this kind may not strick as well as some may, but from seeing someone grow as a person and deal with all aspects, but yet still offer what she does to her peers, for me deserve credit and recommendation.

Esther is a prime example of what us as a company are looking to achieve and she is an extremely valuable member of the team.

regards“

Said the following about Esther Hayward:

“Esther is very helpfull and surportive towards other members of staff, and me. Esther is also our union rep and dose alot of work, for the union in her own time. I am off track at the moment, after an oppration and have been shadowing Esther, so I have been walking through the trains with her, when she is checking tickets, if a passager ask a question, Esther will give them an aswer or find the imformation they need. If they have a problem and Esther can sort it out she will or find a way to sort it out.

I have found that Esther is willing to go above and beyond what is expected of her, and is always willing to help others. R.V. Jones“

Mandy Tindall

Said the following about Esther Hayward:

“I would like to nominate Esther as she really is an inspiration to myself and an asset to the company, Esther has had to deal with a lot of medical issues regarding her husband but unless you know Esther you would never know what she has been going through the last couple of years, she always has a smile on her face and is always willing to help her colleagues in her role as union rep, she goes above and beyond spending countless personal hours making sure everyone has the best representation. She is extremely popular in the depot and a complete professional.“

Richard Hayward

Said the following about Esther Hayward:

“As Esther's husband, this nomination may come across as slightly biased, but I have had many years of dealing with Trade Union representatives (admittedly in the car industry) and I can honestly say that Esther is professional, principled and yet also human and compassionate,

She takes everything in her stride and is not afraid to take on new challenges, often going above and beyond the expected standards of a representative

At the same time, she is a well-known and well-liked face on Southeastern trains - as evidenced from the numerous letters of commendation she has received - and there would not be many colleagues or passengers that would begrudge her this award.“
