The RailStaff Awards 2024

Nominations for Rail Team of the Year

Anita Stuart

Said the following about Ely Station Colleague Adopter Team:

“A couple of years ago the team at Ely decided to take on the role of station adopters to get access to funding and support to keep their station looking its best. Since signing up they have achieved many things, a community herb garden, lovely flower boxes (some with wild flowers to support wildlife) and have started planting a garden for customers to enjoy. The team lead by Jade, Will and Amanda are supported by the whole station team who help with watering and dead-heading all the planted areas to keep the blooms looking good. Jade has been instrumental in working with the local CRP to give them access to more support and funding and Will likes to make things and has created an adopters notice board, a bug hotel and a book case to name but a few things. Amanda likes things colourful and this year has taken to painting the planters to brighten up all the displays. They have recently also had a mention in the local newspaper for the work they are doing at the station.

It is pleasing to see the whole team take an interest in keeping 'their' station looking its absolute best and they deserve to be recognised for it.“

Said the following about Ely Station Colleague Adopter Team:

“The station team at Ely decided to take on the role of station adopters after the previous adopter retired. They have taken on the role and really run with it all working together to make the station as inviting as possible to our customers. They have brightened up the platforms with painted planters and colour flower displays and have managed to secure funding locally to help finance the enhancements. Not only have they done this but they have a wild garden to encourage bees and inspects and Will has put his creativity to good use making Bug Hotels, display stands and a book exchange to name but a few of his projects. Jade has worked with the local Hereward CRP to secure further funding and support to continue to excellent work on the station, and Amanda enjoys the charity work side of the role and has been raising money for Hedgehog Rescue and Bee Friendly Society. The wider team are all part of making this work and getting involved in watering and tending the planters on the platforms on a daily basis. Everyone is really proud of what they have achieved and the team even got a mention in the local press for all of their efforts making the station welcoming.“
