Nominations for Rail Person of the Year

Said the following about Dewan Choudhary:

“Dewan’s conduct has had a huge impact on the traincrew depot at Merseyrail at times this year, here’s what colleagues have to say:

• Dewan has shown throughout the year a real passion to achieve the very best results as an Engagement Champion, working with Guards, helping them complete staff surveys, changing his shift pattern to achieve success. Constantly volunteering for projects.

• He has been consistently available through the business case to implement staff engagement screens at all 3 depots. His passion for the welfare of his colleagues is infectious and he has a fantastic attitude to work

• His team playing contributions to the depot, always putting his name forward and sharing information.

• Constantly volunteered for anything that would improve the grade, consistently available for his colleagues and managers to talk to. He has brought real passion and drive to improving the business.

Dewan was nominated for and subsequently was a winner at Merseyrail's Achievement Awards in 2015 in the category 'Bringing our values to life: Proactive'

Dewan really wanted to be involved in contributing towards business decisions and wanted his colleagues to have a voice. He is a big believer in people giving their own views and being involved in things that directly affect them. Dewan also got involved in the delivery of action plans to ensure that his colleagues got what they needed/wanted. He wanted to ensure that the engagement screens satisfied the needs of his colleagues and would add value to the function. Dewan genuinely wanted to improve things for the business and his colleagues. Through sheer determination and desire to get involved. Dewan was extremely pro-active and was constantly chasing people down to complete surveys, telling them the importance of it and making sure that his colleagues understood how

they could change things. In the delivery of actions he was pushing his fellow engagement champions and his managers to ensure that we

delivered things on time and that they were what his colleagues needed.

This was a sustained push throughout the year, firstly in ensuring that the surveys were completed – which resulted in 87% of Dewans colleagues completing the survey – a record high and particularly difficult in a traincrew messroom. He was really pro-active doing this in company time and his own time, telling people the importance of completing it.

Then after the survey was completed – he was constantly involved in the creation of the action plan and the delivery of the actions. It’s really difficult to put into words the impact that Dewan has had on his colleagues and the function in relation to the employee survey. Not only did he ensure that we had our highest ever response from traincrew, he was also

instrumental in the actions plan and the delivery. He has been a real credit to his colleagues and the business.“
