Said the following about David Moreland:

“David Moreland combines a vast amount of experience with common sense, modesty and an instantly likeable personality. He started his career in 1971 with Robert McGregor and worked for a small number of civil engineering contractors over the next twenty years progressing from site engineer through to Project Manager. In 1992 he joined Gallifords where he spent the next ten years progressing from Contracts Manager through to Regional Project Director. In the latter years he moved from project delivery into leading the company’s tendering and estimating. His civil engineering experience includes roads, water treatment works, motorways, bridges and large bore pipelines.

In 2003 David transferred his skills from civil engineering to rail infrastructure and joined GrantRail as a member of the Senior Management Team and Director of the fledgling Projects business. He led the business through bidding, securing and delivering some of its early major projects. This included establishing and developing strong working relationships with JV and alliance partners to enable GrantRail to enter into the market for multi-disciplinary projects which involve disciplines beyond the company’s core capabilities.

David successfully led the development of the Projects business securing and successfully delivering larger more complex rail infrastructure schemes for a number of clients including Docklands Light Railway Limited, Network Rail schemes including Lea Valley and CrossRail West Advance Works and TfGM Manchester Metrolink extensions.

These larger projects often require joint venture or alliance relationships to be established. His personal integrity and personality combined with his depth of experience have enabled David to form strong open relationships on behalf of VolkerRail with clients and partner companies alike.

David’s natural openness lends itself to alliancing and partnering. He has been a champion within VolkerRail of alliancing and has contributed massively to the working relationships we have developed with all of our strategic partners.

He takes a keen interest in the training and development of the next generation of contracting professionals. He will always find time to offer advice and guidance to others sharing the benefit of his experience openly.

When David retires at the end of 2016, VolkerRail and the rail industry in general will be lesser for it. Whilst his professional relationships will end, a great number of friendships he has built over the years with colleagues in the industry will no doubt continue.“
