Coming from the world of hospitality and having no previous experience in the railway industry before joining Lumo, David Fox in just 18 months has solidified himself as a key driver for positive change within the business and is considered an integral part of the team.

Quickly mastering his initial customer facing role, he was taken completely out of his comfort zone with a promotion to Planning, Performance and Resource Lead, a key leadership role within the business, and ultimately made himself an indispensable employee.

Impact on the business

David has completely transformed Lumo’s Train Planning function and has already drastically improved key processes, systems and overall position.

He started this role as a one-person function, managing our train planning, rostering and performance. Today he has built a strong, proactive and pragmatic team of three around him.

David leads by example, consistently questioning why things happen and how they can be improved. This is an attribute we value as part of the Lumo DNA. He is also incredibly friendly and adaptable, whether he’s communicating with our frontline colleagues, our Managing Director or key stakeholders.

He’s gone above and beyond to grow his own network of planning contacts which has really put Lumo on the map within the sector, and consistently strives for more by sharing ideas to not only help Lumo on its own journey but to take steps in helping to revolutionise the wider industry.

Key successes

David has proactively challenged the industry to get Lumo recognised with external stakeholders and has developed strong relationships with other rail operators. He has developed a robust set of contingency plans, which have ensured that there is as little disruption as possible.

He has worked collaboratively with Network Rail to ensure our plans align. Now we are working together as an industry to deliver the best for our customers in times of disruption.

David won the ‘Performance Legend’ award at Lumo’s internal Celebrate Well awards ceremony and has a wealth of colleague feedback highlighting the huge impact he has had in his short time with the business.
