Said the following about Daniel Craig Evans:

“From being a semi-professional rugby player and upon taking inspiration from his father who was admired by his peers and gained the respect and reputation for being a problem solver whilst working for Scottish Power, Daniel Craig Evans decided to follow his father’s engineering footsteps and joined Network Rail as a Graduate Electrical Engineer in September 2022.

Transitioning from the Health and Fitness Industry, Daniel took up this new challenge with great enthusiasm and by instilling his values of hard work, dedication, team ethos and going the extra mile, he has taken up several challenges that have had a positive impact on the entire organisation. With the intent of adding value wherever he goes, Daniel took part in the Eastern Change challenge where his team’s concepts were found to be extremely impressive and are now being trialled with the hope to be implemented over a wide scale within Network Rail. He has actively taken part in extra-curricular projects such as the Digital Innovation for Collaboration in Engineering (DICE) and Enginuity Challenge, and outside of the engineering scheme he has updated the Engineering Graduate and Line Manager handbooks for the Engineering Graduate Program Team (EGPT).

In terms of technical capabilities, Daniel has undertaken long-term placements in Asset Management, Maintenance, and Capital Delivery in his first 12 months on the scheme. His work has proved valuable and influential for all teams he has been involved with. During his time with maintenance, he was able to identify and resolve a discrepancy in the method of documenting defect codes which helped improve assurance and management of outstanding work going forward. To further maximise efficiency and reduce unnecessary workload, he updated all correct documentation and information of existing switches along the route and restructured the Maintenance Scheduled Tasks (MST) schedules to ensure effective management of the Technical Team resources, which will reduce the backlog. Alongside his Maintenance placement, Daniel is involved in the Crossrail Project where he has worked on providing input on how drones can be utilised and is assisting with the close out of the project.

Here's what Daniel’s host manager from his time with Asset Management had to say about him:

“I was pleased with the interest and enthusiasm that Danny showed, always eager to understand something new. When faced with new tasks, Danny went about them in a conscientious and determined manner. When he had the opportunity to learn a new skill or continuously improve, he jumped at the chance, and he was always grateful for any feedback throughout. He also got involved socially, joining us on runs, and building that connection with the team. He showed appreciation throughout, and we appreciate him and his hard work. It's not every graduate who adds value to the team they join, and Danny did just that. We miss him!" –

Olivia Huntly - Senior Asset Engineer

Daniel implements his value of being kind to everyone by getting involved in volunteering activities. He has been invited by HR to give a presentation during an early careers event to encourage underprivileged children and their parents to consider the Railway Industry as a viable and safe career for their kids. Daniel has started working towards helping future engineering graduates forge their careers by embracing the role of Lead Representative, where he leads and works with a representative team that assists the new graduates transition into the business and organises their first 3 months in the industry. The team has consistently received positive feedback from the current batch of graduates. Danny has organised and held Regional Engineers Meetings giving the opportunity for the current graduates to meet industry leaders from across the business and region, opening opportunities for placements and improving the graduates’ professional development.

Daniel is a shining example for all the graduates joining Network Rail, his desire to learn, enthusiasm towards rail, and his dedication in creating a positive change is paving the way for future graduates.“
