Nominations for Apprentice of the Year

Sue Diggles

Said the following about Connor Walkinshaw:

“Connor has volunteered on several occasions throughout his apprenticeship to assist the company in promoting both apprenticeships and engineering subjects to potential school leavers at local events.

His enthusiasm for his subject and the opportunity he has to combine work experience and academic qualifications through the apprenticeship scheme clearly shows via his interaction with the students. He has assisted others in running engineering exercises at schools events, which has given students the opportunity to experience hands on engineering problems linked to STEM subjects, and discuss career opportunities within the industry.“

Said the following about Connor Walkinshaw:

“I have had the pleasure of working with Conner on several projects and believe his contribution to VolkerRails and Networks Rails apprenticeship programmes and belief in helping the young of tomorrow enter the railway industry is commendable.

Connor shows maturity beyond his years. Not only has he been able to attend meetings and present his experiences to senior directors in the business with ease but Connor has shown extraordinary passion at charity days and STEM and school leaver events to help showcase what VolkerRail and the railway industry has to offer. So much so that he is at the top of my ambassador list when events are agreed.

Connors dedication to learning should be bottled and sold. Although based in Portsmouth, over 250 miles from our head office Connor had embedded himself into his team ensuring hes kept abreast of what the department are working on and offering help and support wherever he can while maintaining high grades through his studies.

I see Connor as a driving force and shining example to anyone wanting to start a career in the railway industry. He is a future star and a great ambassador for apprenticeships.““
