Nominations for Samaritans Lifesaver

Walid Basma

Said the following about Colin Pollard:

“Colin was working his shift on platform 4 at a station. It was at about 22:20 just as Colin was completing his dispatch duties of the service that he heard what he thought was a female voice screaming from the rear of the station. Colin made his way to the area to investigate to see a male lying on the ground holding the top of his leg and lower back shouting "Help me, help me I have been stabbed." The young male was bleeding profusely from the wounded area. Colin immediately removed his belt which he then strapped around the male's leg to try and stem the bleeding. Colin continued applying pressure to the area whilst trying to alert a colleague for help over the radio his hands were covered in blood. Colin was advised to call the emergency services himself, which he did whilst continuing to apply pressure to the area, as the bleeding was getting worse and also trying to keep the young man as calm as possible given the situation. Blood started to appear also from an area of his lower back. Colin continued applying pressure to the deep wound for a considerable length of time until the paramedics arrived, constantly reassuring and talking to the young person that help was on the way. Colin's professionalism, diligence and actions of that night were outstanding and it was feedback that those actions saved this young boy's life, truly making him a lifesaver in every sense.“

Bernice Whyte

Said the following about Colin Pollard:

“I have nominated Colin for this award because he truly deserves it. Had it not been for Colin's action the young man would not be alive today. All throughout this terrifying situation, Colin was able to care for and reassure this youngster.

It takes a special kind of person to do what Colin did.

Very proud of you Colin.“
