Said the following about Chris Nash:

“Chris is one of our star conductors at Northern Rail, his commitment and professionalism to the role has been recognised by his colleagues, customers and managers alike.

He has regularly gone above and beyond what is required of him to help assist customers in difficult situations varying from intervening when a young lady was getting harassed on a service, distributing information to customers during periods of delay and generally “cheering passengers up on a sleepy Monday”. These aren’t isolated incidents or one off occasions, Chris delivers this level of customer service consistently and it’s through regular customer correspondence that it gets acknowledged.

Recently Chris has started to mentor trainee conductors through the ranks, he has been chosen to do this as he embodies the characteristics you look for in a modern day train conductor. He is punctual, approachable, helpful and polite to all his customers and manages to do so whilst completing all the other on train tasks a conductor has to in a time constrained setting. Whilst he has only just started doing this, he has spent a deal of his own time researching and consulting with managers to help him develop personally and takes ownership over enhancing his ability to teach and pass on his experience.

His efforts have been acknowledged by managers recently through the employee of the month scheme for our area, but I feel this Chris’ efforts go beyond a simple thank you and vouchers, hence his nomination for this prestigious award. He truly deserves this nomination and further recognition for his professionalism. Thank you for your hard work Chris.

Some examples of passenger feedback from social media are given below;

‘Chris handled a potentially difficult situation with a cool, calm and authoritative manner’

This relates to an evening service where a potentially vulnerable teenager attracted the attention of a group of males, who were intimidating the girl. Chris dealt with the situation by asking the group to leave the girl alone, and then relocating the young girl to an area of the train where she was in sight, and felt reassured.

‘I would highlight the excellent service given to me on Monday 18th August by your conductor on the 17.22 Lincoln to Sheffield train.’

‘Just on the train from Darton to Leeds, and would just like to say what a nice, helpful conductor you have on here, especially in assisting with a disabled passenger at Castleford’.

‘The customer service on the Retford to Lincoln service was second to none.’“
