Said the following about Caroline Goodwin:

“On Tuesday 21st October 2014 the above Railway Enforcement Officers were at Strood station, whilst liaising with the station supervisor, they were informed that there was a distressed female on the tracks country end of platform one. They quickly went into action to resolve the incident by using excellent coordinating and communications skills. They at first contacted Control to advise them of the situation. Caroline then tried to get the female to come back on to the platform and to a place of safety. The female then went to walk to the other side. At this time Craig and Sam had gone to the other platforms to assist with customer care and to be ready to get the female to safety. Caroline then on confirming with a driver that the current had been isolated went on to the tracks and persuaded the female to come back on to the platform and to a safe place. During this Thomas had contacted the BTP using his Airwave Radio asking for assistance and to advise them of the situation. This enabled the BTP to arrive promptly and take the female in custody who thanked the REOs for their quick reactions and professional manor on the radio whilst reporting the incident.

Overall the REOs worked really well as a team using excellent communication skills which resulted in a distressed suicidal female intent on taking her life by means of the railway being taken into a place of safety and helped reduce further possible delays to the service and any distress to other members of staff and public present at the time..

I believe their actions on this day shows their commitment to the role and that they are willing to go above and beyond what is expected of them to help the distressed female.“
