“We were in the process of a set swap, and passengers were coming from platform 4 to 5 via the footbridge making platform 5 busy and difficult to control the numbers owing to there only being one member of staff - Carl. The weather was atrocious and very rainy. As the set we were going to board all the people approached the station, Carl observed in the crowd one person who was not heeding the warning to stand behind the yellow line. After the request was made three times and realising the danger the person was in, Carl made his way through the crowd and grabbed the man to pull him into a position of safety, just as 1A81 glided into platform 5 past them. The man had been standing balancing on the edge of the very wet platform throughout. Carl's eagle eyes and quick response stopped a fatal accident.“
