Said the following about Carl Channell:

“Carl is a night shift Duty Team Leader (DTL) at Bedford Carriage Sidings. He started initially as agency staff and very quickly proved himself to be reliable and hard-working so was taken on as a full time employee. He's now been 10 years with the company without a single day of sickness; he says, “if I can walk, I can work”.

He puts his heart and soul into his job and that’s why I believe he deserves this recognition. He gives much more than is required from his role and he does it gladly.

Carl is always willing to cover work colleagues sickness even at short notice; to not let down the depot and our customers. He makes himself available and lets our manager know that she can count on him.

Carl is a problem solver; he fixes the cleaners trolleys and buckets himself, so we don't have to buy new ones, saving a lot of money for the company.

He even sourced a much more cost effective tool for screenwash replenishment which led to an 80% reduction in costs.

Carl works permanent night shift on a site with aging Infrastructure and when there is a defect he will proactive find a temporary work around to ensure the safety of his team and that our workload can still be delivered.

During the weekends if we are short staffed, in order to not drop the cleaning standards he will not hesitate to clean a few trains himself. He also is fully hands on when it comes to graffiti cleaning and will sometimes take on this task by himself if required. He is a great believer that as a person he can’t ask someone to do something he is not willing to do himself.

He has even volunteered to attend meetings in his own time because he likes to know first-hand our manager’s feedback and share his concerns or ideas.

Carl trains people to be the best and take pride in their work. He shares his knowledge and experience to help people succeed. Seeing people with a high can do attitude, developing their full potential, makes him proud.

He is an asset to the team and long may he be so.“
