“Brian is an outstanding individual when it comes to understanding and implementing health and safety in all that he does. Below are just a couple of examples that demonstrate why VolkerRail are so proud to nominate Brian for the Rail Safety Person of the Year.
Brian is an experienced COSS who ‘walks the walk and talks the talk’ when it comes to safely implementing the days works. he regularly demonstrates a fantastic safety culture ethos, which cascades across the team resulting in excellent safety record's on his projects.
For his continued hard work, Brian has been nominated for internal recognition; for challenging members of other contractors for working unsafely. Brian received the company's safety recognition award by the HSQE director .
Brian is also on hand when others outside the railway need help. This year Brian attended to a member of the public who collapsed (from an epileptic type seizure) whilst awaiting a train on the Bromsgrove Station platform. Brian was undertaking COSS duties in the area and on noting the individual collapse responded immediately. He arranged exclusion zones, managed and reassured the individual and stayed with them until the fit ended.
Brian’s prompt action in attending the incident further demonstrate his ability to manage situations professionally and quickly.“
