The RailStaff Awards 2024

Nominations for Rail Person of the Year

Jade Southwell

Said the following about Ben Cowdell:

“This nomination, in order to keep it short and sweet, would simply not encapsulate all Ben does to ensure that projects within TBROC Control progress in a positive fashion. My colleague Ben Cowdell has hosted more than 60 tours of the ROC at Three Bridges this year alone, which he has presented to not only GTR colleagues from different areas of the business, but also Network Rail partners, members of the public and Executives from various partners. This is a massive achievement for one person to do, and he doesn't plan on stopping these tours any time soon. By inviting people to come and see Control, is breaking down barriers, siloed working and inviting new working relationships to grow and flourish.

Ben talks the visitors through every desk on the Control floor including their roles and responsibilities, with up to three tours on any given day (earlier in the year). He makes sure to offer his help on any project relating to the building, ensuring Business Continuity and Fire protocols are all seen to and has also spent a lot of time on the two Wellbeing Weeks we have now held at Control, promoting our colleague’s health and happiness. He is always one to jump straight in and work hard to get things done. An unsung hero who deserves to be nominated for this award.“
