“It's truly impressive to see how Amir Aziz (Area Supervisor) was able to handle a challenging situation with a suicidal individual while facing an abusive crowd recently. Amir's ability to effectively communicate with distressed individuals and alleviate their anxiety showcases his empathy and care for others.

Just recently, Amir was working a night shift at the station and was confronted by someone shouting and claiming to end his life. However, the shouting escalated, and the language became quite offensive so Amir tried to calm the man down.

Amir asked calmly if he was okay and whether he needed any help. He didn’t want to engage at all and started swearing in Amir’s face. Before he knew it, the man was sitting down on the platform dangling his legs and whilst talking, he stepped on the tracks Amir knew he had to diffuse the situation somehow.

Amir called the signaller to put a caution on the line so that approaching trains were aware of what was happening and managed to get assistance to do an emergency stop on a train approaching.

Remaining focused Amir kept talking to the man to try and find out what was wrong, and told Amir that his father recently died and his brother was in the hospital.

Amir told him that he knew how that must feel having been through something similar – Amir wanted to have a mutual understanding with the man so that they could be on the same level. Amir kept talking and reassuring him until the British Transport Police were on the scene and could take over.

This all happened within the space of 45 minutes and Amir was dealing with the situation whilst crowd controlling and keeping others safe as the situation escalated that night.

Moreover, his courageous decision to align himself with the police officers, blocking the line and ensuring the safety of everyone involved, is truly praiseworthy. It's remarkable that he remained calm throughout the 45-minute ordeal, demonstrating his level-headedness and ability to handle tough situations with grace.
