Said the following about Alina-Florentina Lighean:

“This nomination is in recognition of a true mentor, Alina Lighean. She is a powerhouse in the rail industry with a wealth of experience across the sector.

Alina has worked her way up to Associate Director within AtkinsRéalis, and she does not only lead the North-West Estimating Discipline and the HS2 Balfour Beatty Vinci Main Works Civils contract cost assurance framework, but she is also sharing her failures and wins with her mentees.

This year, her recognition in shaping the future of our industry was reflected in winning the Constructing Excellence -G4C North-West Award for ‘’Mentor of the Year’’ and the Engineering Services Sector President Award out of 36,000 people across AtkinsRéalis business.

Her mentorship is focused on people development and changing careers and lives by coaching with care. The testament to this is the feedback below.

‘’Alina has an evident passion for her work and an inspiring work ethic. Working underneath Alina is a privilege, allowing me to witness her motivation and desire to excel in everything she does. Being exposed to this at such an early stage in my career encourages me to work to the same standard and improve my performance. Alina has been an excellent advisor on where to take my career and she has completely supported me in all areas of my apprenticeship.’’-Mia Rushworth-Degree Apprentice

In June 2023, Alina’s nominees have won within G4C-Constructing Excellence North-West Awards the following categories: New Professional of the Year and Apprentice of the Year. Alina has also recognized her HS2 team's talent and submitted shortlisted applications for "HS2 Apprentice of the Year Awards".

Alina’s team provide multi-disciplinary services to our industry clients, with 80% of Alina’s team working within the rail sector, having been inspired by their leader. She has been involved in winning frameworks with various clients, enhancing her team's pipeline capacity and empowering the development of their careers.

Alina led training modules to upskill our future workforce through monthly ‘’Lunch and Learn’’ sessions and created a virtual library space for their studies. Currently, she is implementing a monthly newsletter to attract interest across Estimating discipline, and she is pursuing coaching sessions with her team.

Alina is invested in developing and guiding her team through helping them set SMART goals and conducting Professional Development Reviews twice a year. She explores their skills gaps and guides them to advance their careers by matching their ambitions to the right project assignment, offers enrolment to various training courses and assists her degree apprentice Gateway Progression Reviews with universities representatives.

As a result, four assistant estimators were promoted to Estimators within a span of 12 months and a further three promotions are on the horizon. Outside work, Alina coaches pro-bono young professionals through LinkedIn.

The people she mentors and manages are the epitome of our next generation of business leaders that strive for success and hard work.

Recognition to Alina with this award would be springboard from which the industry and profession can benefit more widely from her leadership.“
