“We are nominating Alan Gearing, a Train Service Control Manager for Network Operations, GTR, due to his outstanding commitment to training & supporting the development of his colleagues.

Alan has supported and helped to develop the training programmes for the staff within Network Operations which is outside of his normal working remit. He consistently shows his commitment to wanting to give our staff the best possible training that he can, developing and training them to be the best that they can be.

Alan was asked to support us in developing the training programmes that we already had in place, and he did an amazing job of sharing his knowledge and experience in order to do this. Nothing is ever too much, and his passion for wanting colleagues to be the best that they can be is outstanding.

Alan is committed to supporting all the staff, even after training, and always ensures that he keeps a close eye on newly passed out members of the team, giving encouragement and support where needed.

Alan has changed things, especially through solid and practical achievement in ensuring all of our new trainees are effectively mentored, coached, and developed. His work has brought distinction to the training and support offered and he has enhanced the reputation in this area of activity in learning and development.

Alan has a positive outlook as well as a calm engaging personality and is passionate about railway operations, he passes this enthusiasm and encouragement on to all those he supports and develops. He truly invests his time in guaranteeing everyone he works with has a great learning experience.

As a Training Operations Manager, Alan’s support has been invaluable, sharing his knowledge, experience and having the ability to share his ideas in a positive and motivational way.“

“Alan is brilliant, whether he is working as a Train Service Manager, or Duty Network Operations Manager, covering shifts. Working with new trainees in Three Bridges ROC to teach them about our systems or procedures, and working on strategic plans for upcoming events, as a Train Service Control Manger. Alan works tirelessly to ensure everyone is happy and comfortable in control. We are lucky to have him.“
