Said the following about Tom Hill:

“I would like to Nominate Tom Hill for Apprentice of the year.

Tom Joined Amey Consulting straight from A levels and has adapted into the organisation with ease, he has demonstrated enthusiasm to learn new skills and has taken this in his stride.

Over the last 6 months Tom has been working on complex Telecoms designs for the Transpennine Route Upgrade project (TRU) and has been commended by senior designs for his hard work, willingness to learn new skills and ability to adapt to different audiences.

In addition he is attending university on a part time bases and is due to complete his first year having achieved excellent results thus far.

Tom demonstrates all the attributes of having a very successful career as a designer I cannot commend him enough.

Well done“

Said the following about Tom Hill:

“Tom has a very positive attitude to his work, and is keen to resolve or mitigate any issues that he faces. He can be relied on at short notice to pick up the baton to support the Telecoms team – and he always has a smile on his face!

On the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) Tom has shown a very good aptitude for his work and university study, and also eagerness to add to his skills and knowledge, which he was able to demonstrate by acting as note-taker for a recent IDC/R and asking questions outside the meeting to expand his understanding. He also had some good suggestions when we were preparing for this meeting, which I was chairing as CRE, on how to handle note-taking alongside the recording, to ensure that we had the right level of documentation in support of the IDC/R activities.

Once Tom has been given an initial brief on a telecoms drawing/design, he can be relied on to get on with the task with little oversight; if he encounters a problem, he will always try to find a solution to it himself, before asking for help. He can be relied on to get his assigned work down to a high standard and on time, and gives proactive feedback about what he has achieved, so as his team leader I am kept in the loop.

Due to his enthusiastic and motivated approach to his work, as well as his people skills, Tom has a positive impact on the team, bringing them together and providing the impetus for excellent levels of collaborative working, and this is evident from watching the RDAs working together in the Birmingham IDH office. I can honestly say it is a pleasure to work with Tom, and I’d be happy to have him working in the team on any of my other projects.“

Said the following about Tom Hill:

““In my role as Amey Consulting's Technical Director for Telecoms, it is a real pleasure to support Tom Hill's Apprentice of the Year nomination. From his arrival into the Amey Consulting business in September '22, Tom has consistently impressed and had a very positive impact on project delivery in terms of a 'can-do' attitude to allocated tasks plus willingness to learn and ask relevant questions when required.

In addition, Tom is not shy in taking the initiative and asking 'why' questions plus thinking around innovative ways of delivery particularly around gaining time efficiencies in relation to CAD drawings.

Whilst I recognise the strength of candidates, it is with absolute conviction for me to say Tom Hill would make a very worthy winner of the Apprentice of the Year award 2022. ““
