Nominations for Award for Charity

Jonathan Glass

Said the following about Susan Temple:

“Susan is a hard working individual who always puts her community first.

Susan has recently been awarded the Provost's choice award for the Renfrewshire Inspirational Awards, and once you hear the great work she does at Johnstone station, then you know why.

Susan supports local families at Christmas, supports the Glasgow, Inverclyde and Renfrewshire branches of the Women's Aid, regularly donates clothing for local homelessness and drug rehabilitation projects....the list is pretty much endless. Susan's station is at the heart of her community, and Susan's customers regularly use her station to drop off charitable donations or to put her in touch with other projects needing help.

In recent years, Susan has (in addition to all of the above) also assisted with donating decorations for the 'Santa Express' charity train that ScotRail operated in 2021, and (with the team at Johnstone station and a host of other volunteers from across the business) lead the collection and co-ordination of charitable donations for the NHS during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition to all of this, Susan works full time at Johnstone station, selling a vast array of tickets, undertaking journey enquiries, cleaning and maintaining the station and offering travel advice to the travelling public.

Quite simply, people wouldn't survive without Susan.

She puts her community at the heart of everything she does, and she makes a difference to the lives of people across the west of Scotland every single day.

Susan is what railway heroes are all about, and her charity work (and what she achieves in her community) is absolutely outstanding.“

Said the following about Susan Temple:

“What can I say about Susan that hasn't already been said? Susan is one of those people that you don't come across fairly often. If you ever meet her she will tell you that she is nothing special and that she can only do what she does because she has so amazing people behind her. Susan's relationships with her customers is something special. I have seen Susan show great compassion when there has been a bereavement and if there is illness in the family Susan is always the first to offer a hug.

A few years ago I know she helped a young mother who was about to lose her home, she went with her to the council and helped her secure a council house.

Susan's work with the community is something to be admired. She started off with one and as I text this she has 9.

Susan never turns anyone away, she will always do what she can.

Susan will tell you that her job at Scotrail allows her to be able to reach most communities in Scotland and often talk about the railway family, if you ever go to Johnstone station you will see what she means.“
