Said the following about Sue Thorpe:

“Ever worked alongside someone where you think ‘how would we cope without this person?’ That’s Sue. She’s a guru of the Company and the employee relations and HR world and everyone feels confident and ready to do their thing after getting advice from her. She’s been at the company for decades and worked in many different roles which increases the respect people have for her and her work. Now I’m sure there are a few people in every business like this…

However, ever worked under someone and think ‘how lucky am I to have the perfect boss?’ That’s Sue. She is a model manager. She does not micro manage and puts ultimate trust in her team, but she works by example and supports us infinitely. She notices what we are passionate about and looks to aid us to reach our potential and looks out for opportunities to match our needs and wants. She is approachable and genuinely cares and protects her team. She is fair and consistent and is calm and cooling in stressful situations. She never blames or scolds for human mistakes but instead supports us to rectify and rebuilds our confidence. So she is also in that top ten percent of best bosses.

Now ever worked for someone who you think ‘this person is truly selfless and in it for the people and the business, not just themselves?’ This one is the most rare, let’s face it, we are all human beings that can and do make decisions and actions based on selfish reasons, and that’s ok to a point, I mean, we don’t work for the goodness of our hearts! But Sue never plays the blame game, she never makes decisions unfairly based on what she will get out of it, she never takes any credit for what anyone does (barely takes credit for what she does!) and she does things for the right reasons, not for her personal reasons, ever. That is applaudable.

Some may judge me but I count Sue as one of my closest friends despite her being my boss. And that will never change, she can fire me and I’d still be friends! (Mainly because if Sue fired me it must be the correct decision so I wouldn’t even appeal! Hopefully never though!)“
