Said the following about Steve Kirby:

“Can't see how anyone else deserves it more. His service is second to none. He is a classic reflection on how successful E&P continues to perform.“

Andy Gibbs

Said the following about Steve Kirby:

“Steve is in an extended Autumn of a career in which he has maintained and renewed the infrastructure E&P asset with passion and respect; and whilst health and family considerations increasingly draw him towards retirement, he has striven to eventually only leave a team embedded with his own skills and values.

In recent years Steve agreed with his manager he would step back from directly engineering delivery of E&P renewals schemes himself, and focus on developing the younger engineers in his team. Despite physical limitations that develop in our more mature years; and often in arduous and inclement conditions, Steve dedicated himself to always be there to share his vast experience in E&P with his more junior engineering colleagues. In sharing his experience and knowledge, Steve has been careful to also impart his own respect for the asset and its importance in the operational railway.

When Steve finally accepts it is time to ‘hang up the orange vest’, he will leave a team confident of the legacy he will leave behind in which his own skills and values are embedded; and that the team is in a good place to continue to successfully deliver renewals schemes for Network Rail.“
