“I would like to nominate Simon Ball for the lifetime achievement award for taking Colas Rail Freight from its humble beginnings hauling timber trains with hired locomotives for Kronospan to one of Britain's leading rail freight haulers with new class 70 locomotives. Even to this day Colas still haul timber trains to Kronospan in Chirk. Colas Rail Freight has continued to grow despite the recent downturn in rail freight with new contracts that include Total and Tarmac.
I feel that Simon Ball deserves recognition for the fruits of his hard work in expanding the growing Colas Rail Freight portfolio and yet Simon's door is always open for frontline staff, in the years that I have worked for Colas, Simon has always been friendly and approachable, being one of the most pleasurable managers I have ever worked for, it is for this reason I would like to nominate Simon Ball for the lifetime achievement award even in his own recent adversity still took the time to ensure the welfare of his staff.“
