Nominations for Rail Person of the Year

Tony Paul - **HAS LEFT**

Said the following about Sarah Paul - **HAS LEFT**:

“At Newcastle there is a staff welfare which has been operating for over thirty years, open to all train companies and Network Rail employees. As well as being an on board CSA wth Virgin Trains East Coast, Sarah is also the vice chair of the North Eastern Railway Staff Welfare Association (NERSWA), having held the position for several years.

Over the last several years, Sarah has helped the welfare grow and improve. She has help set up a Facebook page, an email account and after a recruitment drive has got the membership up to an all time high of nearly 700.

Every year Sarah has helped out organising many trips and events, including the staff annual trip, last year we took 64 railway staff and guests to Grantham for a murder mystery weekend. Over the last few years we've been to Amsterdam, Blackpool for their illuminations, even Butlins in Bognor Regis for an 80's themed weekend. She sends at least one email a month to all our members, regularly updates our Facebook page etc, etc.

However the reason I want to nominate Sarah is for what she does every Christmas time for our members and their children. Every year we take 220 railway employees and their children to the Theatre Royal in Newcastle for their annual pantomime. All the children go free of charge. On top of that Sarah also gives all the children selection boxes and goodie bags with crisps and pop for the night.

Sarah has been organising this trip for the last five years, a huge undertaking and all of the time spent planning it is in her own free time. When you consider that she also works full time and has three children, to be able to find the time required is amazing.

She even manages to seat friends together, also sitting staff from the same train company with each other.

I am immensely proud of my wife and the things she does for all railway employees irrespective of train company, and I honestly believe that she deserves recognition for all she does as she really is an amazing, generous woman who does so much for so many people without asking for anything in return.“
