Said the following about Phil Chambers:

“Phil joined Bridgeway in 2014 as a S&T maintenance Technician, so has had a comparatively short career with us so far, however he has a wealth of experience in signalling as he has been a signed up member of the “Sick & Tired” brigade (Signal & Telegraph) as all “Bricks & Sticks” (Civil Engineers to the uninitiated) used to call all signalling staff during the heady days of British Rail.

Phil has been involved in the noble art of maintaining signals for over 30 years and initially worked as a trainee S&T technician in British Rail at Nottingham depot from 1981 working through the grades and finally into management. From the very start of Phil’s career with Bridgeway is was evident to me and other Senior Managers within the business that his expertise, energy, commitment and effort was exemplary.

Phil worked for a number of companies post British Rail until he found the opportunity to join Bridgeway, when we expanded into provision of signalling services. Since he joined Bridgeway, he has successfully expanded the resource pool and portfolio of work, culminating in securing one of Network Rail’s national signalling resource supply contracts to provide staff to local depots especially those SMTH trained.

The forthright attitude that Phil has displayed throughout his career to get the job done whatever the circumstances has lead to him being incredibly resourceful, never more so that when being called out in an emergency to assist in getting the line back open after a failure or an incident. He has an incredible “Can do” attitude that is infectious and this radiates throughout his team.

The signalling team have made great strides forward in a very short space of time, mostly due to the man at the helm, so I have no hesitation in recommending Phil for the award of S&T Person of the Year and feel confident that his nomination will be supported, not only by those within the business, but also by Clients and others in the Rail sector with whom he has worked extensively over the years.

Phil’s other passion in life outside of work is football, as he is a passionate Nottingham Forest fan, pity his favourite team can’t match Phil’s energy, commitment and drive, otherwise they’d be top of the league, like he is!“
