Said the following about Paul Atkins:

“Paul Atkins began his career as an apprentice mine surveyor working in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. And it wasn’t until 1997 that he dipped his toe into the rail world, at that time carrying out contract survey works for a fledgling Bridgeway Consulting. Shortly afterwards Paul was appointed as Survey Manager, establishing the survey department with one other surveyor. From that point, Paul built and supported an ever growing department based on consistent high level delivery and was able to maintain the focus on quality which has become the bedrock for today’s Geomatics Team.

Under Paul’s leadership the Survey Team carried out many varied works including being a vital part of delivering the Trent Valley Four Tracking Project and undertaking dozens of surveys as part of national track alignment verification programmes.

Throughout Paul embraced all aspects of rail engineering, and undertook safety critical duties at all levels up to PICOP. In fact it was a key part of Paul’s philosophy that his survey teams should have a full appreciation of the planning and execution of the works that they were carrying out.

Even when reducing his workload to a part time Project Manager role, Paul was always available to offer advice and follow up on any works under his control. Additionally, he showed enthusiasm and dedication on training and mentoring new staff, helping out his clients and introducing the next tier of engineers into the railway life.

On 20th March 2015 Bridgeway staff gathered together to join Paul Atkins in celebrating his retirement following on from 18 years service with the company. Since retirement Paul has been back in touch and we are hoping to further use his experience and temperament in mentoring and assessing junior staff in both technical and safety critical areas.“
