“Nicholas told me how he woke up for work on the day of the Grenfell Tower fire and was haunted by what he saw on television.
He's helped our society with fundraising in the past and has always been quick to 'muck in' and so when he said he had got in touch with Network Rail and got a permit without the usual 3 weeks' notice I wasn't at all surprised!
He organised a team from various TOCs and FOCs to raise more than £6,500 at Kings Cross for the tragedy and we met a few politicians in the process who were appreciative of his work.
He chose to go in and fundraise on the two hottest days of the year (or so it felt!) when he was on his rest days and is very deserving of this award because he's gone above and beyond and I have no doubt he will do it again. It's people like Nick who show great human kindness in the face of such adversity.“
