Said the following about Neil Lathom:

“Despite suffering a heart attack, Freightliner Multi Skilled Operative (MSO) Neil Lathom continues to compete in multiple and wide-ranging sporting events to raise funds for charity.

Neil has been with Freightliner’s Southampton Maritime terminal as an MSO for four years. He comes from an Army background and still serves in the Territorial Army. He has always competed in strenuous sporting events including Ironman and Triathlons.

However, in December 2015, Neil suffered a heart attack at home. Testament to his strength and resolve to recover, Neil was back at work within a couple of months and, despite his heart attack and at the age of 45, has continued to take part in various sporting events to raise funds for charity. These include running the Southampton half marathon, two bike rides to raise funds for Wessex Heartbeat as well as competing in a charity boxing match!

Neil is also currently working as a volunteer with Wessex Heartbeat, helping people who have heart conditions or have suffered heart attacks to recover and who wish to do more.

Neil is a true inspiration and a very deserving nominee for the RBF ‘Heart of Gold’ Award for Charity.“
