Nominations for Rail Manager of the Year

Said the following about Nathan Sobers:

“Nathan Sobers joined Chiltern Railways as a Station Manager in 2021. He quickly ranked up to a well-deserved Regional Manager and has flourished in his role since.

During my time at Chiltern Railways, I've attended many meetings where the topic is change and how to enforce positive change. I strongly believe Nathan is the change we've always spoken about. He is a purpose driven individual who is always looking out for his employees and wanting to factor into his job a feeling of family and support. Other employees have described Nathan as "caring," and “always fair to everyone” and he has proven this time and time again. He has also been described as “constantly fighting for everyone and keeps a professional head no matter what”. He calms people down and doesn’t let anything overwhelm him or his team.

During Ramadan, Nathan fasted alongside his employees to show his respect, despite not being a Muslim. This was a highly appreciated gesture. When the ticket office at Marylebone needed decorating, he chose to come in and paint it himself. Nathan is willing to do any job required of him and will give help to anyone seeking it. On numerous occasions, I've seen Nathan communicate with employees, taking an interest in their lives and remembering the little things. These are indeed the makings of a good manager - someone who is inclusive, honest and reliable.

Furthermore, it is refreshing to see the opportunities Nathan continues to provide for his team, encouraging everyone to learn and grow, individually and collectively. We're always told to pursue opportunities but never entirely shown how and I believe that, with Nathan, numerous new opportunities have been provided with support. Personally, I have been waiting many years for some training and development opportunities – Nathan was the manager who finally made this happen. With this, Nathan celebrates the success of others and is genuinely joyous when he sees others reach their goals and fulfil their potential.

Even still, Nathan holds his morals and grounds when it comes to challenging situations, aligning with the company values. He is able to maintain having a positive outlook whilst dealing with said situations and does so professionally. This proves to be an example to us all.

Nathan has proven himself to be a reliable and trustworthy manager who caters to every need to the best of his ability - he is receptive to change yet remains a strong moral character showing that he has far to go yet.

This is an encouraging role model to have in the workplace.“
