Nominations for Lifetime Achievement

Joanna Luke

Said the following about Mick Owen:

“Freightliner’s Infrastructure Team would like to nominate Mick Owen for the Lifetime Achievement Award. Mick joined the railway in 1970. By the early 80s, he had taken up a role in loco diagramming for Rail House BR before moving over to Tranrail, which later became EWS. There he was performing a managerial role while still diagramming and getting involved with commercial contracts.

In 1998, EWS relocated to Doncaster resulting in Mick spending half his week lodge away until he joined Freightliner in 2006 as an Infrastructure Planner. Since joining Freightliner, Mick has demonstrated himself as a dependable employee who is essential to the smooth running of countless railway infrastructure jobs.

Within his team, Mick’s colleagues describe him as a pillar of support and continuity for all through difficult times. Recently this has included the loss of a long-time colleague and friend. During his time with Freightliner Mick has had a core role in the training of new team members bequeathing his endless railway knowledge to the next generation.

Mick’s length of service proves his dedication to the railway. His commitment to his colleagues and the success of Freightliner demonstrates why he deserves Rail Staff Award’s Lifetime Achievement Award.“
