Said the following about Michael Manders:

“Award for Charity – Mike Manders

London Marathon, The Great North Run, Yorkshire Marathon… These are just a few of the many ventures Mike Manders, On Board Manager, at Hull Trains has taken on in the past 12 months to raise money for a charity close to his heart.

Action for Children has been running for over 150 years, helping underprivileged children across the UK grow up safe and happy and offering both practical and emotional support to families that need it.

Mike, known locally as “Mike the Knight” has been a supporter of the charity for many years and his charitable ventures always come complete with an outfit just as extravagant, just last year he tackled the London Marathon in his iconic full suit of armour raising over £3,000 for the cause.

Following the marathon, he donated the suit to the Action for Children fundraising museum, raising a further £2,800 for the charity, in the hope that it would inspire someone else’s fundraising journey.

Mike has also used his charitable efforts to speak about important topics internally with his team such as mental health. For World Mental Health Day last year, he shared his own struggles with his team which led to him kickstarting his running journey.

Working with Action for Children means he has been able to maintain his motivation for running, set higher goals, and improve both his physical and mental health whilst inspiring his team to also give it a go.

Mike’s efforts don’t just lay with running, he is currently training to cycle from Hull to Paris next year, his biggest challenge yet for the charity! He will be fully supported by his team and the local community on this venture.“
