“The on-board cleaning team at Moorfields are far more than their name would suggest, as they provide an excellent customer-facing service each and every day, out and about on the network keeping the fleet in tip-top condition for our customers. A highly engaged group of employees, they have an excellent work ethic and undertake their duties with good grace and a positive attitude throughout. They are highly appreciated by our passengers, including many ‘regulars’ who get to know them on first name terms, as they deal with customer queries, train information, assistance with children and the elderly amongst their day-to-day cleaning responsibilities. Strategically located across the network during the day, they keep a regular eye on the fleet cleanliness and respond quickly and effectively to problems, not always pleasant, but always with efficiency and good grace. More than just work colleagues, they are a highly effective and cohesive team; many will be seen well before booking on time at their Moorfield’s base sharing the latest news, last night’s television or the football scores. This is not a job for the faint hearted, as many miles are covered each and every day as the team move from train to train, disposing of collected waste at stations along the way. The OBC’s, like their depot based colleagues, contribute to the excellent Curser scores that Merseyrail currently enjoys, the highest ever in the fleet’s history.“
