Nominations for Apprentice of the Year

Ann Nicholas

Said the following about Katie Ratcliffe:

“Katie has been nominated as she has proven to be an outstanding addition to the Transport for Wales Rail Services team. Katie’s initial Apprenticeship experience commenced within the Customer Relations team and shortly after the change in rail franchise in 2018, she now works within train planning. The train planning team is an area of substantial importance to the success of our railway and her role as a Train Planning and Diagram Specialist, is critical to the franchise plan and other regulatory obligations. Katie has achieved the Customer Service Apprenticeship qualification, applying what she has learnt on a continuous basis. Katie now produces Train Crew Diagrams to meet specifications, giving adequate notice of changes. The role is mentally-challenging, and Katie has demonstrated the ability to plan methodically yet also think on her feet. The Apprenticeship structure has given Katie the confidence that she has today and has built solid foundations for her future career.

Katie has shown her commitment to the Rail Industry by joining the Young Rail Professionals (YRP) programme as an 'Into Rail Manager' - a fantastic initiative to promote the railway industry as a great place to work and to inspire and develop the next generation of railway talent. Katie’s role in the Wales Region committee delivers initiatives to promote rail industry careers, including schools, colleges and universities. Katie manages the Welsh regional ambassadors and is currently exploring ambassador objectives for the year.

Katie is a great example of our organisation values and behaviour, she delivers excellent work, achieves ambitions (for herself and others) and supports people in working together to ensure an exceptional service is delivered.“

“I have only known Katie a short time, but I can see how dedicated she is to her role. She has taken difficulties of team short staffing in her stride and has ensured that her work has not been diminished. Not only is she professional but very friendly and a lovely person to power through the work day with.“

Stephen Badock

Said the following about Katie Ratcliffe:

“Katie joined the Train Planning team seven months ago and is now an integral part of the Traincrew Diagramming team. Her strengths are her enthusiasm, bubbly personality and willing to help others. During this time she has developed her skills and built relationships with our internal and external customers. I would like to add my support to this nomination, she has achieved so much for someone so young.“
