The RailStaff Awards 2024

David Ross

Said the following about Josh Watkins:

“Josh Watkins deserves to be recognised for the outstanding fund raising he does to support The Railway Children Charity. Not only taking part & completing the 3 peaks challenge several times but for the amazing effort he puts in to raise the sponsorship target.

To achieve this Josh uses his talent as a painter of railway scenes to produce special painting of the 3 peaks train to raffle on board. The time and effort and incredible detail of the paintings in which Josh creates is outstanding.

As mentioned Josh has also been a 3 times participant of The 3 Peaks Challenge by Rail and this commitment shows that The Railway Children Charity means a lot to Josh. After tackling the 3 Peaks Josh can been found going through the train raffling off his paintings for the charity so to have dedication after 2 days without proper sleep & just having descending Ben Nevis to continue walk the length of an 11 coach train shows great support.“

James Palmer

Said the following about Josh Watkins:

“Josh is incredibly selfless, a genuinely nice guy and a great colleague! As mentioned in the first nomination, he has raised considerable amounts for The Railway Children charity over the years; whilst I've often threatened to take part in the Three Peaks by Rail challenge, he's actually done it - several times! Josh is a very worthy candidate for this award!“

Garry Loram

Said the following about Josh Watkins:

“Josh is a young guy motivated to help others. And always puts others before himself“

David Heathfield

Said the following about Josh Watkins:

“Josh Watkins was a fantastic ambassador for Chiltern Railways and worked tirelessly to support our charity partners. His skills as an artist and his knowledge of the railway ensured that we were able to raise money for very worthy causes. Josh was a key member of the Three Peaks by Rail team for the last three years and played a part in raising nearly £18,000 for charity over this period. Vital to this was the relationship he built with the Branch Line Society in helping to organise the Chiltern charity specials in 2016 and 2017. His artworks have been auctioned on all of our charity railtours as well as on the Three Peaks Trains operated by the Railway Children, raising hundreds of pounds and giving their recipients an amazing memento of their trip.“

Paul Clewlow

Said the following about Josh Watkins:

“In order to help raise the money for the Railway Children, Josh took time to complete a number of paintings, which he went on to sell at auction on the charity trains that we organised internally within Chiltern and also on the Three Peaks trains themselves. The paintings all had a railway theme and were well received by those on board the trains it went to auction on, often raising a very healthy sum for charity. His willingness to give up his time to do something to help raise money for charity is very much in keeping with his very cheerful and helpful character, so Josh is well deserving of this nomination.“
