Said the following about John Mills:

“I would like to Nominate John Mills for the Lifetime achievement award.

John started his multi-disciplined Railway Career in 1994 as a Trackman working in P-Way and Track Renewals.

Working on some of the larger projects we have seen in the UK. John Mills is recognised by those who have been fortunate enough to work with him as a model professional always taking time to educate those around him and to assist all to ensure that the common goal of our industry is maintained and enhanced.

His career has taken him down various avenues such as:

Safety Critical:

John Mills rise as an operational engineer was sadly cut short in 1999 when changes to the Industry seen the introduction of the Senior Picop Role, due to his experience and professionalism John was seconded to be one of the first Senior Picops on the 1st weekend of introduction and is still widely known in the North West as one of the best Senior Picops the North West has produced.

Training:

John was instrumental in NVQ Delivery /Development of Railway Track Renewals and Maintenance he was also one of the first trainers in the country to be successfully approved to deliver the first Rimini Planner course and was awarded the Southern Region by Network Rail.

Many people who were trained by John from PTS to PICOP are still in contact with him today (even those he did not pass as competent first time round.

Planning:

In 2004 John Mills embarked on assisting the planning industry further and moved away from training planning to become an operational planner and again his outlook on life has ensured his recognition up and down the country as a person who is always readily available to assist and educate.

Leading:

In 2013 John Mills approached his now business partner with a concept of developing an integrated planning company and PPS Rail was born which quickly gained recognition with industry resulting in winning the prestigious Rail staff Awards in 2015 for Rail Infrastructure /Possession team of the year.

John has now taken the company towards developing a Training Division to yet again contribute to the industries skill gap and will play an active role in ensuring highest standards are maintained , the early signs are encouraging as PPS Rail Training has been recommend as Gold standard on their first NSAR visit and the standard of the facilities is outstanding.“
