Nominations for Depot Staff Award

Emily Lacey

Said the following about Jason Steel:

“When people use the railway, they often only see the driving, hospitality, and on-train functions. They don’t see, and may not even know, about the great work that goes on behind the scenes to keep our railway running and safe. Jason should be an example to all for that work.

Many of Jason’s colleagues thinks he is truly an amazing person. Not only does he manage his own duties, but he also frequently stands in for the Fleet Manager and the Head of Depots when needed. He is known for having an open and accommodating manner, with an approach that is always flexible and positive. In January 2021, he dealt with a set of issues from the Edinburgh Waverley engineering staff. He invited the RMT union and staff to an open forum meeting which was very well received by all involved. It is a type of positive engagement that his colleagues believe should be adopted as part of the management process, and this is just one of the ways in which Jason sets an example for his co-workers. He is always promoting safety and good working practices at every opportunity, volunteers for steering groups regarding topics ranging from toilet resets to OLE processes. As with the meeting mentioned above, he often takes the lead in engaging both staff and unions on many issues.“

Said the following about Jason Steel:

“In service fleet engineering is a behind the scenes function. Primarily they work in depots or in cat A stations. Jason has his own areas such as the 2 Cat A stations ran by NWR and also 2 operations depots, Yoker and Bathgate. Jason regularly steps up to assist other locations or steering groups. His work ethic is of the highest standard which in turn inspires others including myself to also step up to help. Jason is committed to the business need and focused on the customer need. For myself, when I have had depot specific question's he has always given me support, mentoring and enhanced my capacity to my role.“
