Said the following about Jai Smart:

“Jai is someone with immense knowledge of the railway industry and this enables him to be a good leader and he is able support others in their working careers and with mentorship.

I have known Jai for over 8 years and had the pleasure to work for him at Alstom on the BASRE scheme for the last 2 years. I have developed a good working relationship with Jai to which it is refreshing to be able to speak and discuss project driven technical issues/solutions with someone in the same discipline that understands. I think it is fair to say that I have learned alot from Jai and likewise he has learned alot from myself..... which shows that he is open on his views as a manager whilst being focused on the task in hand.

In my view Jai goes that extra mile to deliver a project on time and is not afraid to step in and assist the team where required.

I have gained respect for Jai though the nature of the works that we have undertaken together and I would have no issues in recommending Jai or working with him in the future.“

Said the following about Jai Smart:

“Jai has been my manager since I joined Signalling Solutions/Alstom back in 2011. In my 15 year career I can definitely say that Jai is one of the best Managers that I have worked for. He has always made time to listen to any concerns members of the team may have. A very technically able professional always available to give his expert advice. Not only is Jai an expert in the field of Power Engineering he also carries a lot of other Engineering knowledge and offers excellent advice by explaining things in the simplest of forms, be it Planning, Design, Management, Safety or Construction.

Jai is also very good to promote career progression and develop Engineers, giving many opportunities to further develop the technical expertise in the team.

As a Chartered Engineer Jai has been a sponsor to help me obtain Professional Engineer status.

I have learnt quite a lot from Jai whom I see as a role model and I feel he is by far one of the most eligible candidates to receive this Award.“

Said the following about Jai Smart:

“Jai is incredibly efficient and productive, he always keeps to his word and delivers himself with integrity. He will always go the extra mile to help which makes everyone else’s jobs easier by doing so. I have been working with Jai for the last few years and he fully understands the urgency we sometimes require when looking for contract staff. As a client he is a pleasure to work with and always appreciates the efforts made on his behalf.

I would go as far to say that Jai’s reputation goes a long way in helping me in my role as when you are looking for talent and mention his name I am yet to hear a bad word, everyone I speak to who knows or has worked with Jai will know that his knowledge and expertise is second to none making; this makes him a real pleasure to work with.“

Lee Cleary

“I have been working for Jai for 12 months now within the E&P department at Alstom Transport.

In this time, I have found Jai's technical ability and 20 years of engineering experience to be of great use to help me develop into a more competent power engineer.

Jai is a great manager who always has time for his team no matter how big or small the problem is. He is also very keen for his staff to develop and progress in order to make the team stronger and will support them along the way.

I see Jai as a great role model whom I've learnt lots of power engineering knowledge from in order to make me an overall stronger individual in the department.

I therefore feel Jai should be nominated as a candidate to receive an award at the RailStaff Awards 2016.“
