The RailStaff Awards 2024

Said the following about Huddersfield MOMs:

“Rory and Chris Wright (MOM Leeds) are positive thinking but relatively newcomers to the MOM role who go out of their way to ensure that the operational railway is clean and safe, and pleasing on the eye to customers and train drivers.

Rory and Chris arranged a first for frontline staff in our route by arranging to have a worksite in a 52hr wheels free possession. This in itself took some organising to ensure that they had the correct paperwork to be able to sign into the possession.

The main purpose of their task was to clean all line side signs, trim vegetation and clear as much litter as possible at access gates and in proximity to the points, and hopefully clear up any line side litter on the way. On top of this they also set out to locate any other miscellaneous issues which would ordinarily be missed and generally improve the appearance of their area.

Overall, they managed to pick up 26 Close Calls, many of which we closed out themselves, located 4 potentially lost culverts, and identified various other hazards and collected 15 large bags of litter around access gates and points. On top of this, it improved their route knowledge of the area and was a good learning experience.

On the Saturday they walked from Huddersfield through to just north of Slaithwaite. On the Sunday they walked from just south of Huddersfield through to Heaton Lodge East. On Monday they both complained of having aching limbs but were elated with what they had achieved. So much so that they intend to undertake similar work on another line of route during the scheduled 52hr wheels free possession in October this year. Only this time they intend to employ the assistance of other front line staff volunteers. I think both of them are deserving of some recognition for the work they undertook.“
