Nominations for Rail Team of the Year

Mathew Baine

Said the following about GE OHL – Safety Video Team:

“I am incredibly proud of their achievement and delighted to nominate them in this category.

The GE OHL Project at the start of the year split the entire team into six sub teams and gave each team the objective of coming up with a safety initiative. This nomination is for only one of the six teams, which consisted of Mick Child, Karen Wright, Sakhi Shaffi, Sean Dundon, Shaziya Patel, Rachael Fearnhead with voice overs from Rob Bates and Anthony Hayward.

The Team came up with the idea of making a safety video, one looking at the dangers of working on an electrified railway, the team directed, filmed, scripted, and starred/voiced the movie.

In order to complete the six minute film, two Local Authorities were contacted to allow filming, including a scene in a graveyard. Over six hours of material was recorded and editing took more than six months, including members of the team working in their own time over a weekend to complete the final edit.

The final output is really quite remarkable and as good as any professionally produced safety video, the team looked at every Electrocution over the last 17 years of which there have been 17 incidents across the country, five of which have occurred in Anglia which the video focuses on.

The video has been rolled out across Anglia with many Overhead Linemen moved to tears as some were either involved in the incidents or knew people who were. The film delivers a powerful message and allows discussions to take place afterwards that enables the culture within the OLE community to be challenged.“
