“I wish to nominate the Engineering & Operations team at c2c. Over the last 12 months they have worked tirelessly to deliver a high performing railway regardless of the situation, showing great teamwork and resilience when faced with the many challenges from extreme weather days, soil moisture deficit infrastructure challenges, strike days with our front line and our maintenance provider. All of which have been on top of managing the day job, a huge Depot works project at East Ham Depot and the delivery, training, safety validation and introduction of new 720’s on our route.
This level of commitment & resilience the team has shown has been so impressive, every one of them has been unfaltering in their focus towards ensuring our customers received the best service they could in all circumstances.
We have a small fleet of 720’s but the huge workload to bring in any new trains is the same regardless of the fleet size. The project at times felt like we were pushing water uphill, however, the teams were determined to ensure that we got the best fit for purpose unit for our customers and staff and after years of hard work, collaboration and a strong sense of purpose we introduced our first unit into passenger service in September. The project is not complete as we continue to work with our Training teams & Driver colleagues to complete our training ready for the remainder of the fleet introduction.
The challenges that the Engineering and Operations team have faced this last year have been significant and many have been issues which have been exclusive to c2c on top of what has become a challenging year for the industry. All of this has put immense pressure on a very small team, but they have delivered with competence, strong leadership and a will to ensure our customers get the best service in the situations we have faced.
I have been so impressed and grateful for the resilience and the relentless perseverance they have shown and in particular their ability to work at very short notice, changing our plans but always doing what we can with the customer in mind and safety. The list of people involved in this nomination is large so it goes out to all those who work in the Operations & Engineering teams at c2c, without them we could not deliver for our customers every day.“
