Said the following about Emma Taylor:

“Emma Taylor first joined SNC-Lavalin Rail & Transit (formerly Interfleet) in 2011 as a summer placement student. Following two successful internships, we were delighted to welcome her onto our Graduate Scheme in 2013.

In her first year, Emma took on the role of Team Leader for our entry into the 2014 IMechE Railway Challenge. In this role, Emma displayed excellent project management and leadership skills, allowing her team to make decisions and take responsibility for their work on the loco, whilst also taking control where necessary to ensure that deadlines were met. This resulted in the team achieving second place in the competition.

On completion of our Graduate Scheme in 2015, Emma progressed to her First Appointment as an Engineer within our Rolling Stock Enhancements team. Since joining this team, Emma has successfully bid for work and managed assignments for clients. Emma has also assisted Graduates on placement within the team and has contributed to the development of scheme documents.

In 2015 Emma was a member of the SNC-Lavalin team that won the Times Graduate Challenge. The team had to work together to come up with innovative ideas to raise money for the Accounting for Africa Charity. This was followed by a day of experiential learning teaching leadership skills. The team was judged throughout the day based on the improvements that were made following feedback received.

Despite her busy schedule, Emma still finds the time to give back to her local community. Emma’s work as a Guide Leader has contributed to her excellent leadership and communication skills. Emma has also become a STEM Ambassador in her spare time. As part of this, Emma mentored a team of Year 8 students through a science challenge, helping them to achieve a Bronze Crest Award.

More recently, Emma helped to develop a project with the Derby University Technical College (UTC). Emma worked with a second year graduate to create a design and build project for the students and spent time with the UTC to structure this project around their curriculum.

Emma has left a positive impression on everyone she has worked with so far in her career. I firmly believe that there is no limit to how far she can go, as her proactive, ‘can do’ attitude will support her as she progresses.“
