“Douglas is based at Manchester Victoria depot and is a track operative. Victoria depot is a small depot with approximately 54 staff and the location in the heart of the city is space limited.
Apart from his normal duties on track Dougie started to take ownership of the depot with the guidance of his line manager and over the last 18 months has transformed Victoria into a model depot his commitment has been incredible and other Depots have now requested Dougies time to assist them in making improvements.
He is not only making the depot a safe place to be, he is constantly making improvements to help the depot be more efficient by improving our recycling rates.
The stores areas are immaculate and everything has a place including plant tools and equipment this is also an efficiency as we have no damaged plant and when the guys are loading vehicles they now where everything is.
This has not been an easy ride for Dougie as he has faced a lot of leg pulling from his peers for trying to make a difference but has carried on and shown real determination towards safety and also helped network rail to be more efficient.“

Aside from his normal duties on track Dougie took ownership of improving the working environment of the depot, with the guidance from his line manager, and over the last 18 months has transformed Victoria into a model depot. His commitment has been incredible and during this time he has received acknowledgment from the Delivery Unit IMM. In addition, other Depots have now requested Dougies time and expertise to assist them in making their own improvements.

This has not been an easy task for Dougie, he has faced a lot of banter from his peers for trying to make a difference to the Depot he but has persevered, showing real commitment and determination towards safety and helping Network Rail's efficiency drive.“
“Manchester Victoria is a small depot based in the centre of the city. Due to its location the depot is limited in terms of space and access; this presents many challenges to the staff who work there. Over the past 18 months Douglas has worked hard to transform the depot to utilise fully all the available space.
The benefits of this are not only a more efficient work environment but it has improved the safety of the depot significantly.
All this great work has been done by Douglas in addition to his normal duties as a Track Operative. We’re very lucky to have such a pro-active member of staff working on our section and it’s great to see that his hard work has been acknowledged, with other depots requesting his time to help improve their own workplaces.“

“Dougie has been doing lots of work around our depot here at Victoria Street in Manchester. He fixes everything, make sure the depot adheres to health and safety requirements by keeping all parts of the depot organised, neat and tidy. He has also painted lines for a safe walkway, parking and highlighted possible hazards. His dedication and consideration is much appreciated by all the staff who work here and it would be lovely for his work to be recognised and rewarded.“
