Said the following about Daniel Powell:

“Dan has spearheaded a safety campaign that will reduce manual handling risk not only to Keltbray Staff but to the wider OLE industry. Dan and his team have worked to reduce risk and respond to an industry challenge shaped around the key components of our management system is the reduction of manual handling risk during OLE installation activities. Our frontline teams recognised an issue with handling redundant steelwork and the project team realised that the design didn’t offer up a Bill of Quantities that confirmed the weight and dimensions of the existing infrastructure. Our project engineer, Dan took this challenge on, contacted National Record Groups, requested historical drawings/CAD and built the data into an Excel document to enable individual components to be assessed and reduce the weight and therefore manual handling risk. This was shared with Network Rail, Standard Design Catalogue, NRDD and other organisations. This has reduced the risk significantly of removing the redundant OLE that is already installed at height without any physical identification of the weight or safe lifting points, it has allowed the team to plan and select the safest means of removing the OLE, leading to further consideration and innovation around how we can utilise plant and machinery to assist. This has been captured in a business wide safety improvement plan that has aligned with our strategy to change what was considered the industry norm around handling and removal of redundant OLE.“

Said the following about Daniel Powell:

“Daniel has spearheaded a safety campaign that will reduce manual handling risk for Keltbray and the wider OLE industry. In addressing this key industry challenge, Daniel and his team have successfully worked to reduce the risk embedded within our management system, thus decreasing manual handling risk during OLE installation activities.

Our workforce raised an issue with how redundant steelwork is handled. Upon escalation, the project team acknowledged a lack of confirmation for the weight and dimensions of existing infrastructure within the design's Bill of Quantities. Alongside our project engineer, Daniel took the initiative and contacted National Record Groups to request historical drawings/CAD. This enabled the data provided to be fed into an Excel document for individual components to be assessed, subsequently reducing the weight and mitigating manual handling risk. We shared this with Network Rail, Standard Design Catalogue, NRDD, and other organizations.

Daniel's proactive approach has significantly reduced the risk associated with removing redundant OLE installed at height, eliminating the requirement for physical identification of the weight or safe lifting points. Our workforce is now empowered to plan and select the safest means of removing the OLE. Daniel's intervention has enabled greater consideration of how we can innovate best practices utilizing plant and machinery assistance. This has been captured in a business-wide safety improvement plan aligned with our strategy, challenging industry standards regarding the handling and removal of redundant OLE.“
