“Suicidal Person Intervention at Whyteleafe Station

*** 15:55 Received a call from SRCC inner Andy, he has asked if a team can immediately attend Whyteleafe station as there is a suicidal male at the end of the platform by the crossing. I informed Andy the team were already on site and will make there way over to the male.

******** Start of Team 4S report - Whyteleafe station - Suicide

intervention. ******

***15:56 As we were arriving to the car park of Whyteleafe Station we received call from supervisor that there was a suicidal male at the end of a platform on the station. As they wasn't sure if the male was on the trackside or line side he told us to confirm while still on the phone. Once spotting the male we confirmed that the male was line side but at a safe distance from the railway, we then we made our way towards the male. Supervisor also told us ERU and BTP were on their way as well.

Using our Samaritans MSC training we approached the male, he seemed really distressed and was staring at the operation railway. We asked him if anything was wrong to which he replied yes. Every time we tried to start a conversation with him he would say he was ok and stopped talking with us. At this point we decided to keep and close eye on the male and stay very close to him to ensure he remained in a position of safety. A train had arrived on the platform and we updated the driver of the

situation he then updated the signaller of the situation form his on cab phone.

*** 16:04 BTP units and ERU arrived. They then took over from us and started chatting with the male. ERU MOM Neil Clark and BTP officer shoulder no. 0466 came over and liaised with us. We updated them about the situation we also updated our supervisor.

*** 16:10 The male was taken to the BTP van for details.

*** 16:15 As the male was away from the railway and safe ERU stood us down and thanked us for the help. He then left the site. We stayed there just in case the BTP needed our assistance.

*** 16:51 BTP Officers with shoulder no. 4458 & 1375 told us they would be taking the suicidal male to the hospital on their van and they no longer needed our assistance. They thanked us for the help and we updated our supervisor and resumed our normal patrol.“
