“Andy joined Southern as a Production Manager from a non-railway background in the summer of 2014. Since then he has quickly learned the difficulties of running a busy train crew depot on a day to day basis that someone on the outside never gets to see. Andy is person that works well on his own or as part of a team. When under pressure he quickly finds solutions to avoid unnecessary delays, cancellations and all the financial penalties that go with them for the company. From covering trains due to delays, physical needs breaks, short notice sickness, incidents, right through to bad weather, Andy can remain calm and think outside the box to quickly find a solution. Andy has an outgoing personality, an approachable nature and a sense of humour which are all important personal attributes which make it easy for everyone to work with him and ‘return a favour’ at short notice when required, without question. When Andy is ‘in the chair’ he will do his upmost to make sure things run smoothly and everyone will always try and help him in return. For someone who came into the railway world from outside the railway, where a train is simply something you go to work on, he has learned so much in such a short space of time. Because of this he deserves to be recognised for his attitude & professionalism in his role and the respect he has attained from the depot.“
