The RailStaff Awards 2024

Nominations for Samaritans Lifesaver Award

Christopher Altree

Said the following about Iain Robinson:

“Whilst cycling to work Iain encountered a young man sitting on the parapet of the road over a rail bridge.

Iain engaged the man in conversation and got him to a position of safety on the pavement. He then contacted the SSM, asked for trains to be stopped on the Goods lines passing under the bridge and asked for assistance.

SSM asked the MOM to attend and requested police assistance through Control.

The man was taken into safe custody within 15 minutes of Iain’s call and normal working was resumed.

When Iain arrived at work he had learned the man’s name, age (18) and the cause of his predicament (worries about exam results).

Iain if he had attended an awareness course because he seemed to have done all the right things but he has not, just did what he thought best.

Iain's actions potentially saved a young man’s life and I would like to nominate him for this award.“
