“On Friday in June while on duty at Central station Gillian noticed a female walk down off of the platform and onto the line side. She approached the female and managed to talk to her to and bring her inside the ticket office away from danger. Without the female being aware, Gillian called for emergency services to assist her. She continued to talk to the female until emergency services came to help and took the female away from the station to get help. Gillian then took steps to make sure all other stations in the area were aware of the female in case she returned to another station in the area with the same intention.
The family of the female involved were grateful for Gillian's help and bought in a gift and thank you card for her. Gillian has now asked to be nominated for the Managing Suicidal Contacts Training Course.“
“Absolutely overjoyed to attend the Rail Media RailStaff awards last night. It was a wonderful event full of theatrics, great presentations and laughter. To top it off, of all the finalists, WR/RIA EDI Charter for Rail won Highly commended, alongside the fantastic Shane Andrews MBE in the HR, Diversity and Inclusion Person or team award! So so proud!! This working group truly is an inspirational space and being Vice-chair of such a dynamic group is an honour in itself. Congrats to everyone who was nominated, the finalists and those who won, including Sharon Salmon (she/her) who was a worthy winner to come second to - the work you have done in Network Rail and beyond has truly set the bar high.
